Neighbour Chicken
Some chicken some guys in Madras made for me (or at least how I remember it):
Ingredients for marinade:
- Some chasew nuts
- 4 or 5 dried red chillies
- 2 tea spoons of pop seeds
- 10 black pepper corns
- A small stick of cinamon
- 2 tea spoons of geera
- Slightly fried onion, cut in pieces
- Slightly fried ginger and garlic
Grind all the above ingredients finely.
Add yoghurt, chicken and some salt.
Marinade for 2 hours or more.
Fry 3 bay leaves in oil, add 1.5 onion, cut in pieces. Fry things until they are a bit brownish, add a tomate, cut in small pieces. Take out the stuff and fry the marinated chicken and when things are sputtering, add the onion/tomato mixture.
Add salt to taste. Add a wee bit of water and let it stand splutter for some time.
Garnish with fresh coriander. Serve with rice or naan or so.
Bert in the bay area
So, my brother, once again, is in the bay area. This time he has to go to Stanford for an interview, but he will be back in Berkeley in 2 weaks, again for an interview.
We had a nice morning in todland and goat biryani from Kabana, after which I brought him to Stanford where his hotel is. Shakthi seemed to enjoy his presence, and no doubt will be wondering where he is now ('is ome bert now?'). Some more pictures will follow .....

Ice
Picture this. Going out ice fishing and all of a sudden the temperature rises. The ice cracks and you find yourself separte from the main land, a float on a piece of ice in the middle of the sea.
It happened to a couple of guys in 1846. It took 14 days before they were resqued, only 2 survived.
Read the story here (in ducth).
They guys came from a town called Durgerdam (see left picture), a small town under the smoke of Amsterdam. There is copper plate there somewhere commemorating the mentioned endurance.
Another good site is this one. Unfortunately, it is in Dutch.
